... Air quality alert for an increase in particulate pollution
extended through Wednesday morning...

The San Luis Obispo County air pollution control district has
extended an air quality alert due to an increase in particulate
pollution. The pollution is being transported into San Luis Obispo
County from a variety of sources, including smoke from wildfires and
air pollution from urban areas. This air quality alert is now in
effect until 11 am PDT Wednesday, August 22.

Exposure to particulate pollution can cause serious health problems,
aggravate lung disease, cause asthma attacks and acute bronchitis,
and increase risk of respiratory infections.

Residents are advised to use caution as conditions warrant. People
with heart or lung disease should follow their doctor's advice for
dealing with an increase in particulate pollution.

Additionally, older adults and children should avoid prolonged
exposure, strenuous activity or heavy exertion, as conditions
dictate.
