... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this
* temperature... temperatures today are forecast to rise into the
middle 90s over much of the warned area with a few spots
reaching the upper 90s over the far south near the Missouri
border. Heat index values of 105 to near 110 degrees are likely
by the late morning and into the afternoon hours.
* Impacts... prolonged exposure to heat and humidity may lead to
heat-related illness if precautions are not taken.
An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and
check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
