The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Des Plaines river near Des Plaines.
* From this afternoon to late Wednesday night.
* At 1045 am Monday the stage was 14.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and
continue to rise to near 16.0 feet by Tuesday morning.The river
will fall below flood stage by Wednesday evening.
* Impact... at 15.5 feet... water reaches some backyards along Big Bend
drive.

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 11:47 AM CDT May. 21, 2018 – National Weather Service

... The urban and small stream flood advisory remains in effect until
115 PM CDT for northern Kendall... Southern Lake... northwestern
will... southeastern Kane... dupage and northwestern Cook counties...

As of 1142 am CDT, various reports from trained spotters, broadcast
media and the public indicated minor street and Road flooding
occurring within the past hour across portions of northern Cook
County, including Des Plaines, Northbrook and Morton Grove.

Runoff from the heavy rainfall of up to one to two inches over the
past one to two hours plus additional light to moderate rain moving
over the advisory area will cause urban and small stream flooding to
continue.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chicago, Aurora, Naperville, Elgin, Arlington Heights, Evanston,
Schaumburg, Bolingbrook, Palatine, Skokie, Des Plaines, Mount
Prospect, Wheaton, Hoffman Estates, Oak Park, Downers Grove,
Glenview, Elmhurst, Lombard and Buffalo Grove.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
