Winter Storm Warning

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 8 PM this evening to 8 am
EDT Thursday...

* what... heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5
inches, with 4 to 6 inches along the immediate Tennessee border,
and localized 8 inches or better along the highest ridge tops.
In addition, northwest winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph with
gusts to 50 mph along the higher ridges.

* Where... western North Carolina mountain locations near the
Tennessee border.

* When... from 8 PM this evening to 8 am EDT Thursday.

* Additional details... plan on difficult travel conditions. Tree
branches could fall. Expect significant reductions in visibility
at times. Scattered power outages will be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a dense fog advisory, which is in effect until 10 am EDT this

* Locations... the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia.

* Visibility... one-quarter mile or less in dense fog.

* Impacts... limited visibilities will make travel difficult. The
visibility may change greatly over short distances.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A dense fog advisory means visibilities will frequently be
reduced to less than one quarter mile. If driving, slow down, use
your low beam headlights and fog lamps. Leave plenty of distance
between your car and other vehicles.
