Coastal Flood Warning

... Coastal Flood Warning in effect until midnight EDT tonight...

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a coastal
Flood Warning, which is in effect until midnight EDT tonight.

* Location... lower Cape Fear River including downtown Wilmington,
and portions of River Road in Wilmington.

* Coastal flooding... the tide gage on the lower Cape Fear River at
downtown Wilmington is expected to peak at 7.4 ft mean lower low
water (mllw).

* Timing... moderate coastal flooding is expected for one hour
surrounding high tide at 9 PM. Minor coastal flooding will occur
during a two hour window both before and after the moderate
flooding time frame.

* Impacts... with water levels just above 7 feet at the Wilmington
gage, expect up to 1.5 feet of water on Water Street in downtown
Wilmington south of Market street. US 421 northbound near The
Battleship could begin to see water covering the Road. Roads in and
near the state port could be affected. Low spots on River Road and
Highway 133 may be affected or become briefly covered with water
around high tide.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for
rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and
property.
