Flash Flood Watch, Areal Flood Advisory

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northwestern South Dakota, south central South
Dakota, and southwestern South Dakota, including the following
areas, in northwestern South Dakota, the southern Meade County
plains. In south central South Dakota, Mellette, Todd, and
Tripp. In southwestern South Dakota, Bennett, Haakon, Jackson,
Oglala Lakota, and the Pennington County plains.

* Through this evening

* recent rainfall along with the potential for another inch of
additional rainfall poses a threat for flooding or flash
flooding.

* Flooding that develops could wash out roads in low-lying
areas, as well as impact property along creeks, streams, and
rivers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy
rain over the watch area, which may cause flash flooding along
streams, creeks, canyons, and draws. If you are in the watch
area, monitor NOAA Weather Radio and local media for updated
forecasts. Be ready to quickly move to higher ground, if heavy
rain occurs, rising water levels are observed, or a warning is
issued.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
south central Meade County in west central South Dakota...
southeastern Pennington County in west central South Dakota...

* until noon MDT

* at 603 am MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in
the advisory area. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
wall, New Underwood, Union Center, Wasta, Scenic, Quinn, Owanka,
Elm Springs, Wicksville, Curlew Lake, Sheep Mountain Table, Delta 9
missile silo, Pinnacles Ranger station, northeastern Badlands
National Park and Viewfield.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.
