Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 5:10 AM EDT Sep. 23, 2018 – National Weather Service

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 900 am EDT for
Giles... southeastern Greenbrier and Monroe counties...

At 504 am EDT, Doppler radar indicated moderate rain moving
northeast across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain fell with
thunderstorms with heavy rains Saturday night. Runoff from these
storms has pushed many creeks and streams near bankfull. Anthony
creek was near flood stage at 8.7 feet and rising this morning.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lewisburg...
Pearisburg...
White Sulphur Springs...
Narrows...
and Ronceverte.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1... 8 6 6... 2 1 5... 4 3 2 4. Reports and
pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Sunday night...

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of southeast West Virginia,
including the following areas, eastern Greenbrier, Mercer,
Monroe, Summers, and western Greenbrier.

* For Sunday and Sunday night.

* Rain will move from Kentucky into West Virginia today. This rain
is expected to be heavy at times, and may result in flash
flooding of small streams and creeks.

* Poor drainage and lowland areas will be most susceptible to
flooding. Ponding of water is likely on roads. Debris from
roadside ditches may also get washed onto area highways.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember... if water covers the Road, turn around... don't drown!

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
