OKAY, CAMPERS!

I'm creating a SECRET Facebook group (meaning ONLY members can see it and post in it). I am happy to add anyone to the group, but I need your Facebook name OR your email address, to do so. Please message me on WU Mail and I'll send you the name of the group, and include you. I'll try to do this quickly, before this blog disappears. (Is there a drop dead date for the blogs?)
So, going forward, there would still be data on Twitter and conversation plus photos and so on, on Facebook. How does that sound?

Looks like April 3rd is the cut off for the Blogs/WU email.

❄️⭐️❄️ It's official folks!! ❄️⭐️❄️

Our new Weather Blog is now operational on Facebook!!
But it's a Secret Group, meaning it is only open by invitation, and no one can see the group or post on the group unless they are a member. That will mean no trolls!! I am happy to send an invitation to any weather enthusiast who has posted here on Pcroton's "Cranky" blog, Sully's blog or Blizz's blog, over the years (or fits in with same). I will need your FB name or email address to offer the invitation. You may send it to my WU Mail for now, and I'll be checking daily. Please spread the word!!

The views of the author are his/her own and do not necessarily represent the position of The Weather Company or its parent, IBM.

P, I took the survey that WU is asking us to take (see the blue band at the top of the page). I pumped it all about how they should keep the blogs!! So foolhardy. I have seen times when real time blogging of regular bloggers has saved lives, especially in the south during severe weather. To truncate on-the-ground resources is utterly reckless and endangering...for no good reason. Well, we will simply regroup and they will lose the benefit. Take care. ♥

Just a final good-bye and thank you to all who have appeared on this blog, AND especially Pcroton for all of his hard work and knowledge he presented to us.Glad we can still interact with him on Twitter. And a thanks to ListenerVT for her new efforts on Facebook. I'll end my message with a quote from the Beatles song, entitled, appropriately, "The End" it states: " And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love, you make".

Thanks for the note, GardenGrrl!

I went back to read some of the old blog posts and right at the bottom of an old blog post (Sully's from 29 July 2011) was this message:

"The views of the author are his/her own and do not necessarily represent the position of The Weather Company or its parent, IBM."

It really rubbed me the wrong way. They didn't even own WU in 2011. I guess that's been added to all the blogs. =Sigh= Nice way to kick us on the way out, eh?

Again, folks, please feel invited to join us at the NE and MidATL Weather Blog which has migrated to Facebook. Please see Post #31.

I will always be so grateful for the conversations and friendships made here. Special thanks to Jeff Masters, Sully, Crowe1, Blizz and Pcroton, for the kindness of hosting us!! ROCK ON, ALL!! XOXOXOX

The new owners of WU have deleted our WU Photos. Is now deleting our blogs, yet wants us to give data from our weather stations to them for free.

Pull your station. No community. No free data.

It's now only a few days before the end of the blogs and the deletion of all blog comments.

Time to say thank you to Pcroton to all his hard word and to all the commentators who made this a lively destination when it was in full swing. And that wasn't so long ago. The speed of change on the Internet, the willingness of companies to drop features that users grew to count on, is something that is hard to accept at times.

I have started following Pcroton over on his Twitter feed. I will probably join ListenerVT's Facebook Group as described in Post 31 below [thanks for setting that up, by the way).

Still, I can't help but think that Wunderground should have kept up these blogs so that people like Pcroton wouldn't have deserted Wunderground for Twitter and pushed others out too for other social media.

Enough complaining and explaining and more good-byeing is in order now.

So good-bye to all. Sorry we shall not meet here again.

Thanks and best wishes,

Joan

I thought they were keeping the main blog going?
Why do away with the handful of professor's side blogs?

Heck, I knew years ago this was going this direction, in fact I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Still, there's no good reason or explanation for it, so it's kind of odd to actually see it go this way. I already made my choice to move on long ago but others just having the door shut on them is rather obnoxious.

The people, these blogs, are why Wunderground had the success it did, heck, any success for that matter.

So, good job on the selling out, then dumping of those the success was built on.

Business and Agenda trumps all as usual. True colors, and all that...always bleed to the surface at the end.

Looks like Zack may have ya all covered shortly.

You may not have to "leave" WU and can continue to chat on his featured blog.

Zack says he's coming over to the new Facebook blog. Sully, too. Read my note below this one.
I hope you'll reconsider, P. Imagine a weather blog you don't have to run, but can pop by any time you like.

Anyway, see my note about how to do so using your blog name, and ONLY to visit the private group, not doing the whole Facebook thing.

Happy World Meteorological Day!

UPDATE ON THE NEW FACEBOOK WEATHER BLOG!!!

Blizz has joined the group and Sully has asked for an invitation as well! P has said he won't do Facebook, but allows us to repost his Twitter posts as desired. There are about a dozen of us so far, and we'd love to include anyone who posted here on P's blog and/or over on Sully's blog and/or Blizz's blog. What say you?

Even if you're not keen on Facebook, please know that you can register with your BLOG NAME and ONLY use Facebook to come to the group!! The group itself is termed a "Secret Blog" which means that ONLY members can see it, and there are no trolls.
You can set your Facebook settings such that no one can see your info. The only things public would be your profile picture and cover picture. However, those are entirely optional, or you could post a generic photo if you like.

I hope that level of privacy feels okay so that you can join us. To do so, simply send me your email address so that I can have Facebook send you the vital invitation to the group. I promise to NEVER share anyone's email.

Mine is: j schulte at together dot net (no spaces).

I will see what Zack knows or is possibly willing to do on that front. Since he hasn't been active here - I'm a bit worried even if they keep the handful of featured blogs - they may do away with his.

I also on twitter have a fairly decent grasp of who from here is on there and follows me there with their accounts. If I do not have you listed or followed please advise.

If so, there's a chance Zack's remains alive.

Any word from Zack? I sent him a note about the FB blog, but haven't heard back. Hope all's well.

Thanks so much. It's been quite a surprise to me how much I miss someone I never met in person. that's the good side of the internet: real relationships can form.

Very true. If you'd like to stay part of this group, we're moving over to a Facebook group that is deemed a "secret group" ~ meaning no one can see it except members of the group (so no trolls)! If interested, send me a message on WU Mail or to my email address jschulte at together.net and I'll add you to the group.

One has to have or make a Facebook account, but if that makes you uncomfortable you can simply use your blog name and only use Facebook for this purpose. Just one idea.

I hope everyone here considers coming over to the FB group, because it was so much fun during the blizzard and it's easy to post photos and graphics there! In fact, P and Sully are letting us post their Twitter graphics and notes over there, so it's the best of both worlds. I hope to hear from Blizz. P doesn't do Facebook but Sully says he'll come over sometimes, so that will be awesome.

Thanks again, shore acres, for letting us know about NumberWise!!! I had some good WU Mail conversations with her over the years. You are right; even online relationships are real and caring....at least with a good blog like this one where people are kind.

Fare thee well! Hoping to see you pop up in my Inbox yet.

And that goes for the rest of you, too!!!! :-)

It really was sad. We talked before Christmas. Then, in mid-January, she sent a group email telling people she'd been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. By the end of January, she was gone. I was so grateful to her kids for letting us know what had happened. She was in Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY. The situation became more complicated with a lung infection and atrial fibrillation, and then a series of strokes. She was 69.

I'm just glad I thought to stop by and tell you all what happened. She really did appreciate your blog. Nearly every time we talked, she commented about how she depended on it, and trusted it. Keep up the good work!

If anyone here would like to join the new Facebook group, send me your email address and I'll have an invitation sent to you.

Blog sites come and go, but the weather is forever (or so we hope). Enjoy it, and keep on learning.

I've been absent from the blog too - go to Twitter for my updates but I do miss all of the comments and personal exchanges members on this blog have had, especially during our snow events.

Side note on one of our favorites - I signed onto Steve's FB Live last night and he was actually very informative and dare I say gracious with everyone who was commenting and asking questions. Even the people who kept asking him how much snow for _____ - he seemed to enjoy fielding questions from everyone which was kind of different than what I was expecting from reading his twitter feeds. Sometimes Twitter causes everyone to be "short", pun intended. Hard to summarize the weather in small bites but as usual, P does an awesome job with his maps and commentary inside of the pictures that helps when you are limited to number of characters.

I'll watch for the FB page - sent my credentials to Listener - and will keep an eye on our final blog here as well. Looking forward to a big storm (even if it is March and I was LOVING the early spring a few weeks ago). Nice to have one big weather event to remember this winter by!

Unfortunately, I don't patronize T-shirt-boy and Censorbook. Have fun though!

Otherwise, just hoping to survive the death and destruction coming over the next 48 hours. Hudson Bay in mid-March, who would have thought we get a month of extreme polar vortex and blizzards after the nicest February on record? And no end in sight.

Thanks ever so much Phil, for this farewell thread, for this incredible blog and for your continued efforts on Twitter. I will still be lurking there to read what you post, but as I don't have a Twitter account, I can't post.

So this is to let everyone here know that if you (ever) decide you would like to be part of the COMPLETELY SECRET/PRIVATE Facebook group we've started [no one can see it but members, and it's by invitation only], please know that:

* Anyone who is a member of the group can request that someone be added. So check in with those you have email contact with and ask them to ask me to add you.

* YOU can ask to be added, even after WU stops our communications, simply by sending me an email or a Private Message on Facebook. We don't have to be "Friends" to send a message. Just go to my FB page and click on "Message" at the top-right. Let me know your former blog name and your email address and I will be able to add you. You will receive an email from Facebook inviting you to the group. My FB name is "June M. Schulte."

I'm really going to miss hearing from those of you who don't do Facebook. So maybe you can keep in touch through others who are and let us know how you're faring. If you want to send me a note or photo or graphic or question to add to the group page, send to:
my first initial and last name (all lower case) @together.net

May you each be happy, stay warm, and, above all, get lots of snow!!

It's been fun.
I don't utilize social media so I won't be in on the facebook stuff.
I'm of course on twitter but that's as far as I'm willing to take things....and while there's an exceptional amount of valuable interaction there believe me my rants about the platform from years past still stand and sometimes I question the move. However it has proven valuable and it is a solid platform to quickly post information.

So, I shall continue there.

I follow the twitter feed regularly. I have pretty much ignored Facebook entirely, colossal waste of time. My blog comments have dropped way off as well. My job (as most everybody's job is) does not have any real impact on whether or not I'm on social media all day long. Neither is my popularity. Ergo, I can ignore twitter wars, Facebook drama, blog fights, etc and it doesn't impact my life one bit. Perhaps my name is being dragged through the mud somewhere on social media. I don't care. I'm not on social media and unless those internet trolls can get off their asses and insult me in person, I don't care.

Rant over. I certainly enjoyed the back and forth we had on here about the weather, it seemed mostly Troll free. Thak You P, it was fun.
