A NEW HOME FOR US

By: aquak9 , 4:01 PM GMT on March 05, 2017

Hi folks- as this site undergoes changes, well we know what's coming- or going, I should probably say.

The blogs are leaving. No ifs, ands, or butts - (heh heh heh) - things are changing, and many of us need to find a new home.

How often do you check this site, not just for weather, but to see what your friends are up to? Did you even realize you did that? I got up the other morning, and the first thing I did was check WU, see what's going on. Then it hit me- this will all be gone soon. No more blogs.

We are working on creating a place on the same platform that the CAT6 blogs will be using, where we can create our OWN blogs, once again. You'll need to create a DISQUS account, but that's easy. Just go to DISQUS and create your account. If I can do it, so can you. Besides, you will need a DISQUS account for the new CAT6 format anyways. Go get your handle NOW

I've already started a practice blog there. Please feel free to come in, and practice posting. You can make all the mistakes you want for now, it's all good.

WeAreSeedsFromWeatherUnderground

Please go to the Weather Underground channel and practice starting your own blog, post pictures, give it a whirl. It'll give you a chance to get comfortable before the featured blogs switch over to the new format.

I hope to be around most of today, and during the evenings next week. We still have a little bit of time, so take a look and see how this feels.

I'd like to welcome Ylee, Barbamz, StAugustine, txjac, and Beell to the new place.

Love ya'll, love each other, go in peace, carry on.

Took covers off of my seedlings in flats which I left outside on the porch. At these temperatures they were fine for a week without light. The cold is finally just about over from this outbreak. Snow/ice still needs to melt off the garden and I can get back to thinking about planting.

Peach blossoms look like a 50% kill. The tree will be less attractive but I think it will set the normal volume of fruit. The squirrels will be happy.

It remains to be seen what this has done to wild vegetation. I'm seeing a lot of dying bush honeysuckle but the vining species looks okay. Most hardwoods are in the unbroken or tight green bud stage and I'm cautiously optimistic they'll bud normally.

They say 36 for us tonight and a breeze so there shouldn't be a problem for crops, but that is pretty darn cold for us in south central Florida in mid March.

On the other hand, I should have expected it. It is almost always rainy or cold for race week in Sebring. The weather is just a couple days early this year!

Mass,

Was saddened to read about that damage.
Let Proserpina know that my thoughts are with them and I'm hoping that they can get the claim settled quickly and repairs done in a timely fashion. Just happy that they are safe.

Aquak! ~ Since your M-I-L's pretty much shut down her Proserpina WU blog, I thought I'd post the pic she took earlier today and posted on Flickr, etc. of the severe damage done to her and RainDad's home due to a severe windstorm that swept through her region of Virginia. I posted it for her on your Disqus weather section as well and thought you might like others still here to also be able to view.

She stated that they're doing well, have immediately called their home insurance company for a claims adjuster to come out the earliest on Monday and repairmen are scheduled to come by tomorrow to assess. Naturally, it was far too cold and windy for anyone to come out there today.

Hopefully, they'll remain safe and warm within their home. despite the damage done. and will definitely seek warm shelter with a nearby relative or friends if things get worse. Big hugs to all during this difficult time!!

went over to a mix of rain and ice pellets around 11PM after a quick 2" between 9 and 11 PM. Rain and ice pellets the rest of the night, then a burst of heavy snow tomorrow morning before it all ends. Near miss for us.

Hi Aquak! ~ I just successfully created a new discussion topic on your new web/blog site pertaining to our upcoming Nor'easter expected tomorrow. We could be looking at near or above two feet of now. Ugh! Not the greatest way to soon approach the official spring season next week . With DST having arrived Sunday, we'll be watching our snow melt an hour longer in the weeks ahead. Hopefully, it'll all melt soon.

I'm linking here my new Seeds of WU Nor'easter weather discussion page. Hope it takes!

DST doesn't give you an hour more sunlight. It just moves it to later in the day.

But at this time of year, you'll get that hour more in only a few weeks.

I'm looking at slop and sleet followed by some powder in College Park MD. The big snow dump is likely a little north and west of here. I keep telling people that March snow is part of our climatology here in Maryland.. not unusual.

BTW a crushing epic snow dump may now also be in the cards for us. It will insulate whatever survives Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night from even colder temperatures over likely snow cover Tuesday night and Wednesday night.. at least up to the snow line. Trees are out of luck.

Lemon trees (and a lot of other stuff) go in tonight until ?? ??

OK, who the heck moved my coffee mug? Speak up or I start smashing things.

Someone needs a Snickers bar.

Meanwhile in Mid Atlantic, potential remains for unprecedented early Spring Freeze damage Saturday through THursday with peaches, pears and cherries at greatest risk but I am also starting to think a lot of native species are going to take a hit and spring leafout of these may be slow. Multiple days with lows in the low 20s and several of these with strong winds.

I'm with Misanthroptimist. Not really interested in having to join some social media overlord type site (none of which I participate in) in order to do things we used to do on WU. What a shame the site is being ruined. After stopping in to WU first thing every morning for many, many years, now there won't be much of any reason to stick around once I check the forecast. Really disappointing.

Aquak That is awesome. I am working these past few weeks on copying all my photos, thousands of them I have no place else but here.. and got to save....
I am interested in keeping in touch with my WU friends that are not on FB (that is the only other social place I am, I do not do the others)....
I will be checking in to see how to do this...
I am going to miss my old blogs and all my old friends here I do not see on FB..... so sad... glad you found a work around.
Love you!

Glad to see you are organizing new digs!

I'm trying to figure out how to set up a second Disqus account. I already have one, but want to keep any political comments separate from a wu-type of account. I've been harassed on sites that use disqus, kind of stalked really, after posting on news articles. Need to brush up on privacy options I guess, per Brian's comment.
